IK’s architecture is highly efficient, which makes it fast and reliable. Changing from one piano to the next is instantaneous, while your piano engine configuration and other sound layers remain unchanged.
Mainstage 3 template mod#
The piano’s color is mapped to the mod wheel, allowing you to quickly dial in the exact amount of presence the song needs. To accomplish this, pianos are implemented at the concert level and routed through a menu of EQs, compressors, reverbs, and delays which you can reconfigure with just a few buttons, and which stay put even if you change the synth patch. So our pianos are always just one button push away, regardless of whatever else is happening. The complexity, tone, color, body, sympathetic resonance, and stretch tuning of a piano all combine in such a special way, we believe piano remains central to the responsibilities of the modern keyboardist. IK is often described as a “piano-centric” template, and we couldn’t be more excited about that. Playing aftertouch is not a skill we learned from piano lessons, but once you use it a bit, we think you’re going to be hooked. Sounds that respond with intentionality help us tell a more compelling story compared with sounds that are either static or predictable, and help us respond to what is happening in the moment. These controllers make your sounds subtly and intuitively move, shift, grow, and come alive in two dimensions (we call it, “thinking fast”). In our paradigm, the horizontal or X-coordinate responds to your controller’s mod-wheel, and the vertical or Y-coordinate responds to your controller’s aftertouch. IK has done that homework for us as part of our sound design (we call it, “thinking slow”) and selected the most interesting knobs over the most useful range, and tastefully mapped those parameters to the mod-wheel or aftertouch. We all love the idea of knobs on our synths, but it’s also easy to feel overwhelmed trying to figure out which one does what. IK’s “secret sauce” is the large X-Y pad featured prominently in the interface which allow you to see exactly how you’re affecting (modulating) your sound.
The synth engine encourages you to play the sound using the mod wheel and aftertouch which gives each sound an emotional range, while the piano engine is always available for layering and lets you quickly dial in the mood and ambience you’re looking for with just a couple clicks.
